Summer in Bulgaria

The Weather in Bulgaria

Although the country lies on a relatively small territory, the climate is quite diverse and offers multiple opportunities for holiday trips. The main part of the country falls within the continental climatic zone, thus there are all four seasons. During the winter, temperatures fall down to -10°C and throughout the summer they go up to 38°C, so prepare for generally hot weather, with occasional showers, which are not unseen at this time of the year. In any case, the IOL weather forecast is set on cool.

Beach Holiday

On the east, Bulgaria borders the Black Sea and it combined with the hot weather is a perfect opportunity for great summer holidays. The whole length of the coastline is more than 350 km and sandy beaches comprise over 30% of it. The largest cities and major seaports are Varna and Burgas which also have international airports. When it comes to popular resorts, Golden Sands, Sunny Beach and Primorsko are some of the tourists’ favourites. Believe it or not, Sunny Beach is the place where our students qualify for the Bulgarian IOL Team and it serves best as a boot camp.

Mountain Holiday

Apart from a relaxing (or not so relaxing) beach holiday, Bulgaria is a perfect destination for mountain lovers. The Rilo-Rhodope region spans an area of over 14,000 km2 and provides ideal spots for mountain tourism. Although mostly known for their numerous ski slopes, our mountains attract many tourists through the summer as well. The combination of enchanting scenery, delicious traditional food and pleasant weather is a premise for a perfect close-to-nature holiday.

The Summer in Bansko

Despite being mainly a ski resort, Bansko is a popular destination throughout the sunny months. The summer tourist season in the town starts in May and ends in September and provides a lot of attractions for an unforgettable experience in the mountain (and maybe even for winning the gold!). One of the tourists’ favourites is the 400-meter water slide which is the longest one in Europe. Other popular activities include playing mini golf, mountain biking or just going for a walk in the forest and enjoying the picturesque mountain and fresh air.
